Default Your very first Pokémon Game

What was your very first Pokémon Game? Which Generation did you start in? Did you start with the main game series or a spin off? Do you remember when this happpened?

My first Game was Pokémon Red which was an Easter present. I actually didn't ask for it, but I was more than happy to receive it (with that, I also receive the Game Boy Colour, my first Gaming device). I had previously watched my friend play Blue so the game wasn't completely novel to me. There isn't really a way for me to track back which year this happened but I know that I didn't wait that long for Gold/Silver to be released.

I practically got it for nothing. A friend of mine in middle school didn't want his game anymore so he traded me his blue cart for a Japanese Double Colorless Energy trading card in the school cafeteria in May 1999.

I was so excited to have it but I never did anything with it sadly enough.

More later.

I'm pretty sure that I started with Red and my brother got Blue. We would often trade exclusives over to each other, but only he really cared about completing the dex.

Okay I wanted to continue but had to go to work.

Went and got Yellow from Sears, eventually that sat around. Got Silver the following year and eventually that sat around. Ruby and Sapphire followed soon after.

The problem I had was, I felt obligated to catch all Pokemon and raise every single one evenly. Wild Pokemon give shit experience so it takes FOREVER!

Finally I imported Leaf Green after discovering Serebii's site, and breezed through the game with a Blastoise, Snorlax, and two others as my main party. I think I had one HM slave.

How do remember the time so well? Even the month. I wish I would remember which year it was.

What did you do then? Just beat the game? I remember I defeated the league a bunch of times and I'm not sure why. Then I caught a glitch Pokémon which destroyed my hall of fame

Did you complete that goal? That must require quite some dedication. At the very beginning I mostly only raised my starter, the rest were at much lower levels, except for a few Pokémon. That changed in newer generations.

Pretty much just beat the league and restarted every time I got bored of the save, rinse and repeat.

1. Photographic memory. A female friend of mine has one too and we almost tried to outdo each on that.

2. Heck no. It wasn't until Fire Red and Leaf Green that I learned how to play Pokemon. 75% of what you encounter is useless. You build up a strong team of soldiers and they just blitz through every trainer you see. Finally you get to the Elite Four and that's where your real challenge begins because to me it's the only time you need a decent use of items.

In Emerald, I actually did a solo challenge with Swampert. I think I only used Skarmory for flying and possibly for an extra strength user? When I took on the Elite Four though, it was just Swampert and I. Nature, EVs, and IVs were not a factor although moved were important. I needed Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake, and Strength.

I had about 10 Hyper Potions (varies how many you use there), 10 Full Heals (never used more than 3), and some PP restoring berries and items. Wallace is really the only threat with his Ludicolo and Giga Drain but at a high enough level, you can weather the 4x weakness of Swampert.

I think I would have gotten bored quickly if I had done that. Then again, I defeated the league so many times I only restarted my game once which I regret but the internal battery must be dead now anyway. The reason for the restart was that I wanted to get Mew through the Mew trick even though I had a real event Mew...

In Red, I only trained my Blastoise and my Pidgeot. As I've progressed through all the Pokémon generations, my teams got evened out more and more (and the new EXP share in the sixth generation plays a big role in that). I still don't know how to play Pokémon properly battle-wise. And there are some type effectivities that I don't remember. Back when I first played Pokémon Red, I also didn't think anything of the Pokémons' stats. Non damage dealing moves appeared absolutely useless to me and I wondered why they even existed. It took me a while to figure that out xD
