Default Learning a new language

I posted a thread in Portuguese recently because I am learning it in my spare time as a hobby. Are any of you also trying to learn a new language, or did learn a new language?

If so, which one(s), and what made you decide to learn the language?

I decided to learn Portuguese after watching part of the impeachment process against Dilma Rousseff (the former president of Brazil) to see how the government functions there. I was interested in how the language sounded, so I wanted to understand it.

Se algum de vocęs está aprendendo um novo idioma, te desejo boa sorte!
If any of you are learning a new language, I wish you good luck!

It's now been a little over a year and a half since I started learning Portuguese, and it's been on and off, since sometimes I'm busy with other obligations. The main way I have been learning the language is by using two popular sites, along with some videos of cartoons I like, such as Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch.

Overall, I am happy with the progress I've made, and I'm excited to continue practicing Portuguese! I really like the language, both in spoken and written form. When I feel I'm fluent enough in Portuguese to have a normal conversation with someone who speaks it, I want to move on to learning Italian, as I'm Italian and it was the first language I spoke. The reason I forgot how to speak it is because I moved to the U.S. when I was barely 5, and my parents began speaking to me in English and Spanish.

I want to learn Japanese, but it's quite difficult. At least, watching the Japanese Pokémon anime has taught me some words and phrases.

Cool, how have you tried learning it besides watching Pokemon? Or is that the only method you've used so far? I'm now going to try to read some news articles in both European and Brazilian Portuguese to speed up the learning process. :P

Before Pokémon, I had comics to turn to, but the Japanese in them were so rare and almost non-existant, it just wouldn't cut it (and I wasn't even interested in Japanese back then). Still, Japanese is a cool language.

Reading will help you for sure. Also, if you're playing games online, try looking for portuguese people to make friends with. That'll speed things up for you even more imo.

Cool, the last time I encountered sign language up close was in elementary school!
